One a company releases a new premium smartphone, many developers rush to gain root access to said phones and thus enable access to superuser settings. Android developer Chainfire has just announced that root access to the LG V20 smartphone was successfully gained.

In a post on Twitter, the developer thanked Jc Adduono for his support and announced that Chainfire has successfully managed to root the V20, just days after gaining root access to the new Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones.

Chainfire managed to install SuperSU on the V20 smartphone. SuperSU is the superuser access tool and it needs root access in order to work.

The app is what you would need in order to control access of superuser rights to all applications installed on the device and allow or deny access to privileged areas of the smartphone.

The method requires users to install TWRP and flash SuperSU to the V20 so that you can gain root access to the phone. You would also need to unlock the bootloader first and instructions are provided on the XDA Developers forum, where the method was posted.

Rooting would give users access to all areas of the smartphone, as well as the option to install apps that would enhance performance on the device. However, rooting does have some disadvantages. Android Pay and other banking applications might not work on the phone if they detect that it has been rooted.

In addition, rooting a smartphone may void its warranty or insurance and there’s a chance of bricking the device so users should proceed with caution.
